The Masters Tournament - Augusta National Golf Club
The Masters is the most iconic golf tournament on the planet and the first Major of the year. Held every April at the private Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA, it is an invitation-only event watched by millions worldwide. The winner receives the famous Green Jacket, presented by the previous year's champion, along with a place in golf history. Augusta's Amen Corner, featuring holes 11, 12 and 13, is where Masters titles are won and lost. The par-3 12th over Rae's Creek is statistically the most pivotal hole in Major championship golf. The Masters takes place in early April each year, with live leaderboard updates on ScoresLive.
The Open Championship - British Golf's Finest Hour
The Open Championship is the only Major played outside the United States and the oldest Major championship in golf, first held in 1860 at Prestwick in Scotland. Royal Birkdale in Southport, which staged The Open for the eleventh time in 2026, is one of the most demanding links courses in the world, and the championship's roll of honour includes Rory McIlroy (2014), Phil Mickelson (2013), Tiger Woods (2006) and Mark O'Meara (1998). The Open is the biggest golf event for UK fans, drawing huge crowds and a betting market worth hundreds of millions of pounds with leading UK bookmakers.

The DP World Tour is the home of European golf and a major draw for UK fans. The circuit runs events across 30+ countries from January through November, culminating in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in Surrey is the flagship UK event, drawing large crowds and huge television audiences. Other major DP World Tour events include the Scottish Open, the Irish Open and the Italian Open. UK players Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton (now on LIV), Robert MacIntyre and Matt Fitzpatrick are among the tour's biggest names.
Golf Betting Guide - How to Bet on Golf in the UK
Outright Winner Betting
The most popular golf market. You back a player to win the entire tournament outright. With fields of 130-150+ players, even the favourite rarely prices below 6/1. In Majors, the favourite is typically priced 12/1 to 20/1. This means even a small stake on the winner can return significant profit, making golf outrights one of the most exciting long-price bets in sport.
Each Way Betting in Golf
Each way betting is the cornerstone of UK golf betting. Your stake is split equally between a win bet and a place bet. In Majors, most bookmakers offer each way terms of 1/5 of the win odds for a top 8 or top 10 finish. Some premium bookmakers pay each way for top 20 places in the Majors. For regular PGA Tour events, standard terms are 1/4 odds for top 5 or top 6 finishes. Always compare each way terms across bookmakers before placing your bet, as they can vary significantly.
Top 5, Top 10 and Top 20 Finish Bets
Rather than betting each way at a fraction of the odds, you can take dedicated top 5, top 10 or top 20 markets at dedicated prices. These are simple win-or-lose bets on a player finishing within that band. In a Major with a 150-man field, a top 20 bet on a player priced at 10/1 in the outright market might be priced at around 2/1 for a top 20 finish.
Head-to-Head and Group Matchup Betting
Head-to-head matchup betting lets you pick which of two named players will finish higher in the tournament. This removes the lottery element of backing an outright winner across a huge field. Group betting matches three or more players and asks you to pick which one will score lowest across the four rounds.
Make or Miss the Cut
A simple yes/no market on whether a named player will make the cut after 36 holes. Bettors with knowledge of a player's current form, fitness and performance on specific courses can find real value here, particularly at elevated odds for a player who has been slightly below their best but is known to rise for Majors.

Frequently Asked Questions
ScoresLive provides golf live scores, PGA Tour leaderboards, player positions, scores to par, holes completed, and round scores for covered tour events and Majors.
A golf leaderboard displays a player's tournament position, total score, score to par (such as -7 or +2), current round score, holes completed in the active round, and scores from previous rounds.
A player is under par when they complete a round or tournament in fewer strokes than the course's designated par score. For instance, a round score of 65 on a par-72 course is seven under par (-7).
The cut is made after the opening 36 holes of a tournament. Players meeting the cut qualification criteria advance to play the weekend final rounds, while players above the score threshold are eliminated.
The four golf Majors are The Masters Tournament played at Augusta National, the PGA Championship, the US Open Championship, and The Open Championship (British Open).
LIV Golf is a professional golf series featuring simultaneous 54-hole individual and team competitions. ScoresLive tracks available LIV Golf leaderboards, standings, and schedules.
Popular markets include tournament outright winner, each-way betting, top 5/10/20 finish, make or miss the cut, first-round leader, group betting, and 2-ball or 3-ball player matchups.
Bookmaker rules govern withdrawals. Outright bets are often voided if a player withdraws prior to starting their opening round, whereas withdrawals occurring after teeing off are typically settled as lost bets depending on specific operator terms.
ScoresLive tracks live golf scores for every major PGA Tour event, DP World Tour tournament and golf Major championship. The leaderboard updates round by round, showing each player's position, score to par, holes completed and round-by-round totals. Visit our golf live scores page to see who is leading right now.
Par is the number of shots a scratch golfer is expected to take to complete each hole or the full round. If a course is par 72 and a player shoots 65, they are -7 (7 under par). This is excellent. If they shoot 78, they are +6 (6 over par). In tournament golf, the lowest score to par across all completed rounds wins the event.
The Masters is held every April at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. It is an invitation-only event with around 88-100 players. The field plays four rounds of 18 holes. After round 2, a cut is made. The winner receives the iconic Green Jacket along with prize money from a purse of approximately $20 million. Previous champions and top-ranked players receive automatic invitations each year.
The PGA Tour is the premier professional golf circuit in the United States and globally. It runs a full-year schedule of tournaments across North America with events like The Players Championship (known as the fifth Major), the FedEx Cup Playoffs and major invitationals. The FedEx Cup is the season-long points race, with the top 70 players advancing to the playoffs and the top 30 to the Tour Championship. Prize funds range from $4 million to $25 million per event.
The DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) is the premier professional golf circuit in Europe and the second most prestigious tour globally. It covers events across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Top DP World Tour events include the BMW PGA Championship, the Scottish Open, the Irish Open and the Italian Open. Many of the world's best players, including Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, are DP World Tour members alongside their PGA Tour cards.
LIV Golf is a Saudi Public Investment Fund-backed breakaway golf series that launched in 2022. It uses a shotgun start format, 54-hole tournaments (no cut), and team competition alongside individual rankings. Former world number ones Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka joined LIV. LIV Golf and the PGA Tour announced a framework agreement in 2023, and talks over a full merger dragged on for years afterwards. LIV events are not covered under the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) as a standalone circuit.
The Official World Golf Ranking changes every week. Scottie Scheffler of the United States held the number one spot through 2024 and 2025, a run built on multiple PGA Tour titles and Major wins including the 2024 Masters, while Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who completed his career Grand Slam at the 2025 Masters, has spent much of his career near the top. Check our golf page for the latest Official World Golf Ranking updates.
Golf is one of the most popular betting sports in the UK. The main markets are outright winner (back a player to win the full tournament), each way (win or place in the top 5, 6, 8, 10 or 20 depending on the event and bookmaker), top 5 or top 10 finish, make or miss the cut, and head-to-head matchup betting between two named players. All major UK bookmakers offer golf markets. 18+ only, UKGC licensed.
Each way (EW) betting is extremely popular in golf because fields of 150+ players make an outright win unlikely. An each way bet splits your stake between two bets: one on the player to win and one on the player to finish in the top number of places (typically top 5, 8, 10 or 20 in Majors). The place portion is paid at a fraction of the win odds, typically 1/4 or 1/5. For a Major with a 1/5 each way on top 20 places, if your player finishes 14th at 80/1, you lose the win part but collect 1/5 of 80/1 on the place portion.
Most UK bookmakers will void a bet if a player withdraws before they have teed off in the tournament. If a player starts the event and then withdraws through injury during a round, bets generally stand and the player is deemed to have finished in last place. Always check the specific terms of your chosen bookmaker before placing outright bets on golf events.
The Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) is the worldwide ranking system for professional golfers, updated every week. Points are awarded based on finishing position, field strength and tour classification. Events on the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and major international tours all contribute ranking points. The top 50 in the OWGR at year end qualify automatically for all four Majors the following year. The ranking is used to determine exemptions, invitations and tour memberships.
Each hole has a par target. A birdie is scoring one under par on a hole (for example, scoring 3 on a par 4). An eagle is two under par on a hole (scoring 2 on a par 4, or 3 on a par 5). A double eagle (albatross) is three under par and extremely rare. A bogey is one over par. A double bogey is two over par. A par means you matched the target score for the hole exactly.
Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, a former world number one, has long been the leading British or Irish golfer, and he completed his career Grand Slam at the 2025 Masters. Tommy Fleetwood (England) is a consistent top 10 finisher in Majors and a multiple DP World Tour winner. Tyrrell Hatton (England) competes on LIV Golf. Shane Lowry (Ireland) is a Major champion (2019 Open Championship). Robert MacIntyre (Scotland) is a rising star on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
The Open Championship, referred to in the UK simply as The Open, is the oldest Major golf championship and the only one played outside the United States. It rotates between links courses in Britain and Ireland including St Andrews (the home of golf), Royal St George's, Muirfield, Royal Birkdale, Royal Portrush and Hoylake. Royal Birkdale in Southport, England, staged the 2026 Open Championship.
